All over the world people are different. They are made up of different traits, carrying different baggage and their goals, dreams and aspirations are as varied as they are.
But still we carry means to classify them and order them into usable categories. Depending on which side of the line we stand on, these black and white choices sometimes can also put us into categories of good and bad, clever or idiot, kind or cruel.
These lines are reality… and which pile we are put into is different depending on who is doing the sorting.
I also sort and arrange. I organize and label, although I try not to judge and I understand that all types are needed for life to progress.
But yes, I do label.
One pair of baskets I use frequently to determine reason for action is this; Is the person here for world domination, or to change the world?
I know – slightly dramatic, but to me it is a powerful concept. These two people may each have the same business goals and objectives, but in the end the way they achieve their goal, and the carnage waste, or history, they leave in their wake will differ.
I am naïve in many things, and I have laid claim to this before. I still believe we can operate with kindness. I still believe that good intention should be enough. I hold faith that with open communication and honesty, a simple conversation can still mend what is broken. I believe that we are all here to improve everything… not just what we have.
I forget that not everyone is here for these same reasons. (I know. Naïve.)
But imagine if we all were here to make a positive impact on the world. We were all here to help the next person become more confident, to encourage bravery in the face of our fears. If the person beside you was honest with who they were and so were you?
Imagine if we didn’t fight for the pennies and instead focussed on the larger dollars. Imagine if we stayed and played in our own sandboxes and respected the creative castle in the clouds our neighbour was building.
Don’t they say, if you love something set it free? It makes me wonder if it is lack of confidence, or sheer selfishness that causes people to hold so tight to something that it is destroyed.
There is a saying “you can’t see the forest for the trees” and it resonates daily with me as I try to focus on the bigger picture and let go, release the small moments. I urge you to let the little things be what they may, take your eyes to the path ahead and find the collaboration you need to change the world! Because while one person can dominate it… only a team of people can change it.
And really. . . when you think of it that way, the sky’s the limit for what you can achieve.
