I get easily overwhelmed by fancy people.
You know, people who use tablecloths and have matching wine glasses. Couples who give you a cocktail before dinner (not just a beer. in a can.) and provide fancy, meal complimentary appetizers before dinner.
And because we are “weak” in our wine choices, I usually offer to bring dessert.
Now, I do have some skill at dessert, I have to say. I can whip up a tasty Creme Brule (like the REAL one) and have an amazing decades old recipe for a Chocolate cheesecake that wows. I know “how” to make these fabulous treats, I just don’t always have the time.
So, we have found an impressive and easy dessert (albeit lazy) go to dessert to add to the fanciest (or not) tables.
Candy.
Well, pretty candy. Arranged nicely.
With style
What I have noticed is no matter how impressive the meal, when I haul out a plate of candy to a table full of grown ups, all loaded with wine and spirits. . . I am queen.
I grab a mixture of bulk treats, a little sweet, sour and chocolate mixed in. I will often top it up with some fancy truffles or something as well (for show) but find the old school treats go down the best. I mean, just think about it- big full, hearty dinner and now you get to continue lounging, sipping wine and eating a plate of candy.
I mean.. COME ON!
And for seasonal events, go for seasonal treats. Nothing beats those gummy santa’s for snacking on! And the best part- zero prep, and no washing up! Just arrive with your bags of treats and a great plate for display! I guarantee you will impress.
