It has been 2 years since I have planned a kids birthday party. I used to be pretty good at this kind of thing, but over the last while my skills and abilities to “toss together” a party have disappeared.
All my girl wanted was to have a home party, with a piñata, for her 8th birthday.
We had been able to convince the kids to have birthday’s at the local pool, and even skipped the 9th birthday of our eldest daughter (we were new here?) and now it was all coming down to this one last hooray for our girl, at home, rift before we move.
Our house is a disaster. 2 weeks of snow have made everything outside wet and mucky. Our loft is filled with boxes of “stuff” and honestly I don’t remember packing the cake pans, but I must have since they are nowhere to be found.
So I went to the only place I knew to get ideas for this EVENT OF THE YEAR (according to my daughter) was from the awesome design and craft bloggers.
And they had a lot of ideas, amazing ideas and help to inspire our party plan through their discussion
From Secret Agent Parties, to Winter Parties, craft ideas like no other, and these amazing wood slice pendants and if only I could find where we packed the hand saw, would have been perfect.
We ended going old school playing pass the parcel, musical chairs and “FREEZE dance” We did Shrinky dinks and our best activity was hand painting terracotta pots. The plan was to use the plant pot to stash their goodies from the piñata! I also LOVE a useful goody bag, and these pots at $1.49 each were a steal!
We pulled that piñata, scarfed the gluten-free cake pops and even did a dance off. And I as I flopped to the couch with a double pour glass of wine, I wondered if I would ever get my party mojo back?
And then looking at my “now” 8 year old, I realized I did have it back.
She had a wonderful time. From picking up her and her gaggle of gals at school, to sending everyone home with bellies full and face covered in chocolate. . . from an 8year olds perspective, it was perfect!
