Truth be told the last few years have been hard on my body and my soul. I have coupled a desk job, with running a farm and doing some pretty extreme renovations and land clearing. I will spend all day on my rear, and then pick up a chainsaw on the weekend and work for 10 hrs each day sweating and swinging.
Not to mention the stress that we experienced moving out of the city, finding a place to live, not just building but CREATING jobs for ourselves, and worrying about investing into our dream life, while still managing the basic responsibilities of being a parent.
If my body was a machine I think it would be in need of an overhaul.
So this month I am going to give it one. Here are my 5 tips to giving yourself a tune up, inside and out.
Giving Yourself a Tune Up with Better Sleep
I am a believer that our body heals and recovers with sleep. I am going to start turning off the technology by 9pm so I can allow my body and brain to slow down and ease into a gentle nights sleep. I will pick up a book, or just focus on spending time chatting with my hubby and catching up after a chaotic 3 years.
Likewise, my alarm will be set BEFORE the required “morning wake up time” so I can give myself time to collect my thoughts before the kids tumble into the room and my morning is filled with breakfasts, lunches, backpacks and noise!
Giving Yourself a Tune Up with Better Food
Cakes, cookies, bread, and oh SO MUCH wine. I need a break from even thinking about it, and I imagine my body needs a break from eating it. I am going to clean out the leftover heels of thick holiday cheese and pull out the cookbooks again and create healthier family meals for all of us.
I want to reduce my portion size, and think about each item that comes into my mouth. It isn’t about losing “weight” but it IS about feeling better and getting the energy I need to embrace my day.
Giving Yourself a Tune Up with MagPop!
Magnesium is the “wonder” mineral, and according to Orange Naturals:
is used by every cell in the body, from crafting new proteins to rebuilding bones, relaxing muscles and relaxing the mind, and powering every cell action and 350 enzymatic reactions.
Adding a MagPop to my day will not only help give my body the nutrients it needs, but also satisfy my “sweet” tooth with something better for my body. MagPop! is a new magnesium infused effervescent drink that dispenses an ample dose of magnesium glycinate, vitamin C and electrolytes with every serving.
Giving Yourself a Tune Up with Honest Conversation
When things move quickly I spend less and less time actually focussing on the details of what we are doing. Things accumulate and when you suddenly stop and take a moment to look around yourself, you may not recognize the landscape of your life.
This month hubby and I are sitting down and having a chat. Together we will look at our expenses and “tune up” our budget after a holiday binge. I want to walk through the cupboards, the pantry and the garage and purge, purge, purge, purge.
I want to re-set some goals for our family, and make a plan to achieve them, and accommodate everyones needs. I want to remind ourselves of what we love, and make sure it is a part of our life, and not forgotten in the chaos of every day living.
Giving Yourself a Tune Up with Fresh Air & Sweat
No matter what, one of the best things we can do to re-boot our system is to get outside and get sweaty. Walks in the forest, runs along the trails. Activity of any kind gets the heart pumping and the organs working, and clears the mind and the stress.
I am making sure I get outside, and get MOVING each day, for my body and my soul. Working as a solo entrepreneur this gets me out of my chair, brings forth a different view of the world and boosts my creativity.
So, those are MY tips for giving yourself a tune up in the new year, and now it is your turn to tell me what is on YOUR list? What is the key to pushing your reset button, or clearing the cobwebs of your body and soul?
