I remember as a little girl going to a lot of weddings. There were ALWAYS weddings, and as kids we would dance the night away and sneak the odd “grown up drink” when our parents weren’t looking.
After the weddings came the baby showers. Sitting there as my mom played the silly games, eating tiny sandwiches and (again) sneaky sips of sparkling wine when the grownups where distracted.
Somehow though, as I got older, the weddings and baby showers dried up. Perhaps it is just a change in the times, how people are skipping the big wedding, and babies are happening later in life, rather than earlier. Whatever the reason, my baby shower gifting is a bit rusty.
I remember the items I loved when I had my kids. The baby sling which was a life saver through all 3 kids, and the wipes warmer, which seemed a little excessive at the time, but got us through many winters nights and midnight changing.
But I just got news that a new baby WILL be coming to our family (extended family, don’t get too excited) this winter which means I will be able to celebrate it’s arrival with tiny cupcakes and share this “right of passage” with my kids.
So, here is MY list of amazing baby shower gifts for all of you who are looking for “whats cool” just like I am (but also wanting it to be practical and useful, because.. well, we are mothers)
- Baby wraps or slings: Now, I don’t ooze hippy mama, but I did LOVE my baby wrap, and my baby sling (yes, I had both) The wrap was amazing for a new board, up to about 6/8 months, but the sling we used until the kids were 4 or 5. In fact, I remember hauling a 4 year old who had fallen asleep through the Disney Parking lot (baby in a sling and the 6 year old in a stroller) They are amazing and one of the BEST things you can get for a new mom!
- A Nursing Bra: I know, I know. It SEEMS like an intimate thing to give a woman, but honestly, after we have squeezed a baby out, nothing is off limits. My “girls” tripled in size and find (and affording) a comfortable nursing bra was a gift. WE LOVE the YooToo bras and I bet your new mommy will too.
- Soft Shoes: I had winter babies, which meant that toes needed to be cosy at the beginning, and shoes needed to be warm when the babies started walking. Being west coasters, we LOVE Robeez (and still do) but also fell in love with the heavy wool booties. Our pairs were handed down to all 3 of our kids, and we loved the style (especially when they stuck out of our baby carrier!)
- Pretty Bedding: IF you have the chance to give a gift that carries a little more “cost” then I urge you to step away from the stroller and look towards the bedding. Baby bedding is beautiful, and will last. It will be a cherished gift that the parents will keep for the baby to hand down to THEIR babies. If you want to make an impact, choose something timeless like this Petite Namaste Birdie set. (LOVE) of course they have a huge range of style for every taste, so enjoy choosing one that excites you.
- Something FUN: Yes, a gal can get tired of opening the same white onesie after white onesie so why not be THAT person who adds a little fun to the party! The outfits, and accessories at SOZO are wild, and perhaps a little crazy, but it will surely brighten the parents up after yet another sleepless night with their baby! From bunting bags, to hooded towels, baby clothes and WeeBlocks, Sozo is a one stop shop for your gift giving! And there is nothing sweeter than a baby fresh from a bath in a cute hooded towel (MELTS YOUR HEART)
