I haven’t been hiding the fact that since I turned forty (a few years ago) managing my health and lifestyle balance has become a more difficult thing to accomplish.
Pre-40’s, I would see results within a week of making a lifestyle change… post 40’s… let’s just say the “definition of results” has changed.
My goals are less about eliminating the muffin top and more about increasing my energy and strength. I am not as worried about how I look, but how I FEEL!
And I no longer exercise for NEXT MONTH, but focus on the next DECADE. Health has become a lifestyle, not a goal, and that has been the thing that has made the biggest change.
Because it is now a part of my everyday, there are a few things I want to “amp” up in the New Year, not just for my own health, but for my entire family.
I want us to MOVE more and with purpose. Spring always comes early here, and my hope is that by the time the weather turns around, so has my schedule. I want to make more room in the day-to-day to increase our energy output – more hikes with the kids, more outside time on the farm and yes, more time at the gym with my trainer! More of all of this, without neglecting the other “NEEDS”… it’s time to get creative with my systems and manage my time better.
I want to make smart changes. Easy changes. Life changing little things that I doubt our family will even notice. No more tossing a box of cola in the cart, 2017 is the year of WATER for my family. I want us to reduce the liquid sugar intake and make sure we are being hydrated the healthy way.
Did you know that spring water is a healthy alternative to sugar-sweetened beverages? And Nestlé Pure Life sparkling water has 0 calories and 0 sugar. It’s … water. I am hoping that we can shift our kids’ palates towards sugar free, flavoured water that’s available in a variety of flavours to keep their taste buds happy!
Most of all though, I want to USE my health this year. I want to enjoy moments with my family where we are feeling healthy together. I want to spend time with them planting our garden this spring, and managing the farm. Enjoying the life we have built together, and creating more of those moments for spontaneous conversation that is the foundation for our healthy and lasting relationship.
