New years eve came with cold, cold winds here, blowing 2016 out across the ocean and 2017 gusting in on it’s heels. We hunkered down with our kids, put the farm animals to sleep warm in their barn and coop and waited to see what 2017 would bring.
We are a family who cherishes our time together, New Years Eve being no exception, so on this night of glittering parties and champagne kisses we created our own special moments as a family. We made favorite foods, lots of nibbly type things to keep us going through the night. Sausage rolls, popcorn shrimp, veggies and dip and chocolate fondue.Delicious soft cheeses, crusty bread and smoked salmon fed our bellies and being together fed our hearts. Making it to midnight was a challenge, and we all fell into bed just after 12, exhausted, full and happy, brimming with eager anticipation for the coming year. The hubby and I rarely sleep in late, with a young boy and animals clamoring for breakfast it’s difficult to lounge in bed for very long. Netflix came up with a great way for us to get those extra few minutes in bed on New Years Day, with a clever door hanger for our door.
The idea is that our kids would see the door hanger as an invitation to sneak back into their own beds with tablets or ipads and enjoy their favourite shows, affording us the luxury of a later morning. And that’s exactly what happened!
With his tablet and a list of approved binge-worthy shows our little guy was happy and cozy til close to 10am, even giving us time to linger in bed AND enjoy a peaceful cup of coffee together before the day started.
So as this year unfolds slowly for us on our little island, we wish you and your family peace and prosperity, and mornings with netflix and clever door hangers.
Get your own door hanger here and give yourself and sleep in too.
