We’ve been at this renovation thing for a while now, and our oldest daughter Amy’s room is being renovated at the moment. It’s a total mess and I have doubts we’ll ever finish it, but she’s so excited to update it that she is actually HELPING us do it. In truth, her room was a haven for spiders before we started ripping the walls apart, and apparently one does not easily grow accustomed to spiders in their bed… no matter how many times it happens.

While we are doing the renovation, we are tasking Amy with “designing” her space. She has less than 4 years left at home/highschool before she is off to her next adventure, but I want her to create a space that she loves, and that suitsher.

Living on an island, we have MASSIVE limitations to what we can access and as tempting as it might be for us to head to the city and check out what the big box stores have to offer, we really wanted to stick with a Canadian company. We also didn’t want to leave the islandor our house.

And, once you have used direct shipping…. it is pretty hard to go back to lugging carts out of a store.

I was so relieved to discover Furniture.ca.They literally have everything we might need for our home, and then some. Amy and I spent some time browsing their website to find exactly what she wanted, and because it was so easy to navigate, it took no time at all. You can even look through products that are onlyCanadian-made. It’s honestly worth it to pay a bit extra, so we can feel confident in the quality of those pieces, not to mention how the craftspeople are treated and paid for their work.

We’ve tried to teach our kids right from the start that there are people behind every single thing we buy. That’s probably why Amy went straight for the Canadian-made section. I have a feeling she’s going to love everything she chose, but I was happy to see they have a satisfaction guarantee on most items. And, given how much we still have to renovate and how much we’ll be spending, it’s nice to know they have a price match promise.

I’ll admit it: even though having a teen who’s choosy about what she wants in her room can be slightly complicated, it’s nice to see her developing her own sense of style, and her own set of (similar) values. I couldn’t be prouder, actually.
