Everyone complains about January. They are tired, miserable, paying off their holiday debt and suffering from lack of sunshine.
I get it. I don’t experience it, but I can kind of understand where they are coming from!
So, here are my tips for getting rid of the January grey’s and putting some early spring into your step!
1. Put down the wine glass. Alcohol is a depressant. Yes, even though you think you use it as a stimulant, it actually depresses the central nervous system. I agree, I sometimes have my best ideas after a bottle of wine, but my recovery the next day tends to take the wind out of my sales. So, sorry folks, put the bottles in the basement for the next few weeks to give yourself a bit of time to find your footing in the new year.
2. Put away the cheese and chocolate. Our bodies are usually so bloated from the holidays that we are in a frenetic sugar high, sugar low situation. Simple carbs, fatty food and sugar laden treats screw up our bodies ability to balance. Start with some healthy proteins (a nice , low on the cheese omelet) or a green filled smoothie for breakfast. It will give you the nutrients you need this month! I always figure too that you should fill your body up with green so their is no room for the other stuff!
3. Start sweating again . . . and not just from hauling down the holiday decorations. Fresh air and exercise will get your body moving and work out the cobwebs from sitting around the fire all December Remind yourself of the activities you were doing last September and resurrect them!
4. Get rid of the crap. Clean the house. Purge the broken toys, and out of date clothes. Dust! While you are at it, clean the fridge and toss all the left over treats from December Purge the opened snacks that will linger in the cupboards until they are stale. Reorganize the spaces that drive you nuts and perk up the house with some fresh scents and new storage systems!
5. Get under the sheets. Trust me! Having a few stolen moments with the hubby will perk you BOTH up! I know, I know – the kids have been home, you have put on weight, you are tired and bloated . . . I get it, but you are still beautiful and he still loves you! Force yourself to spend some time in the bedroom and remind your body of it’s libido! Not only does sex wake up our confidence it also kicks our mind into high gear!
Do you feel better yet??
