Sometimes in attempting to achieve one objective, you accomplish goals you never knew you had.
When we came to look at our loaner house we noticed it was missing an important kitchen appliances.
No dishwasher.
Hmm. Not good.
Hubby and I had a plan. We would pick up a little portable dishwasher (there was even a space for it) and solve this massive issue . No problem!
Except, as with many things, we forgot. Or maybe our subconscious made us forget.
We moved in without a dishwasher. It was added to the list (big list) of all the stuff we needed to make this rural life manageable.
Then we started washing dishes.
Well, I mostly wash them. And my eldest daughter helps me by drying.
It has been the most cherished gift. My hubby takes the little kids outside to swing on the tire swing or chase frogs while Amy & I clean up.
And we talk. We talk about school, about life, about dreams. No, it isn’t just me asking questions, it is a full blown give and take conversation with my daughter.
It is a time with no distractions (no cable here!) and we are simply enjoying the task ahead and enjoying each others company.
This was a moment I didn’t even know I was missing. It was something that never would have been in my life, a part of our relationship that never would have happened.
And I hope that as I will, she will look at this after dinner time as a chance to talk to me about anything. This may possibly be where our relationship is defined. Like me, she is hard working and devoted to responsibility and to have this productive moment be the place that anchors us to each other is fitting.
And through these moments I found out my Amy is reading my posts and has found my website.
So to her I now speak directly.
Amy, I love you and I am grateful for these moments with you each night. I hope they will instill in you a love of completing a task and let you find the joy in quiet projects. You are a beautiful and courageous girl and I feel so very lucky to be sharing life with you.
Now, go to bed!
