The place we want to settle, well, it is a little ways away. Not too far mind you, but far enough that we think the air will be fresher. With a confirmed offer on the table our little weekend exploration took on a whole new meaning. Being optimists and fatalists, we often expect good signs to greet us and lead us on the path to our future.
We left the lower mainland in torrential rains and darkened skies. All went well as we dropped the dogs at the kennel and approached the tsawwassen ferry. Loading up on cupcakes, we patiently awaited the “START OF THE FUTURE”
We possibly put too much on this trip, our expectations for a glorious weekend when the weatherman stated otherwise. But then, we often think glorious and grandious thoughts when we dream! Panic greeted us as our poor truck …. Not that old of a truck mind you… left us stranded in the ferry terminal with a dead battery. The fatalist in me immediately thought “Something is trying to stop me from getting on this boat”
A quick jump from the ferry staff and we were on our way, headed into the future.
We approached our chosen destination through thick fog bags… very think (almost like our future was obliterated by fog) and again… the fatalist rears her ugly head, purses her lips and tuttuts away in her corner – I may even have heard that doomsday filled voice say “YOUR FUTURE IS OBLITERATED”
Rain, storms, a fussy baby boy with a belly ache, a moody hubby with a belly ache and 2 girls sick of “all this driving” the weekend left much to be desired.
And then, then the sun came out. On our last day, when we visited the elementary schools and checked out a rental house, the sun shone upon us. The kids ran through meadows and played in parks. Belly issues were resolved with a hefty pack of pepto bismal and we relaxed and saw the potential. We were able to see glimpses of our future; we gained a little confidence in our decision, just a little!
So, we sit on the ferry with the sun streaming through the windows, eager to have decisions not plans… but still terrified, and still over thinking everything!
But, we have put less trust in the “signs” (which hopefully are meaningless) and are eager to see what opportunities arrive from our weekend of exploration.
