A four day school week for our kids makes every weekend a long weekend.
Except when it really is a long weekend.
Then my family has a long, long weekend. A four day weekend. . . a weekend that just goes on and on and on and on.
And on.
It means repetitive pancake mornings. It means getting through the fun of the extra day to the fatigue of the extra extra day.
I means the house gets cleaned.
Twice.
On the same “weekend”
And it also means building in “break out” time for the family, individually and as a whole. Getting away from the house, getting away from each other. Changing things up and finding our personal time in the midst of family time.
And thank goodness for Thomas and Friends train sets, and puzzles and books and chickens. Thank goodness for beaches to go to (even on a cold day) and apples to dehydrate. Thank goodness for firewood to chop and rabbits to groom.
It makes me so very appreciate of everything around us on an extra long weekend like this. So thankful for the space, the variety and the way we have built our life.
Being rural our “spontaneous outside influence” is limited, so to be able to see my family find entertainment without it, makes me know we have hit the jackpot.
And every thing we start to do, every activity we create, leads us to another, and another. So while this long weekend is a little overwhelming, it does give us the freedom of time to succumb entirely to an activity.
You never know where the story will take you when you have all the time in the world to let it write itself.
Check out the fun new products from Thomas And Friends, including the track master (a little cooler than the one we have) and a new DVD King of the Railroad.
