Yay! We got the house. We are confirmed (omg we are actually moving) and excited (crap, crap, crap) to be starting our new life (if I live through this panic attack) on …………
Arg, enough drama!
We are moving to a lovely little island off Victoria called Salt Spring Island.
Home of surplus doctors, very little (compared to Vancouver) rainfall, lovely archipelago for boating, 4 (yes, 4) elementary schools, a swimming pool, arts center, dance academy, AWESOME soccer club , 4h and deer… lots and lots of deer.
Oh, and 2 grocery stores (who needs more than that?)
We have a lovely home to rent (8 acres… count em, 1, 2, 3 , 4, 5, 6, 7 ,8!) with great water views, a tire swing and chicken coop. Everything a girl could ask for!
So we breathe a sigh of relief, for a moment.
A small moment.
See, the type A in me immediately goes back to the lists. The moving out list is doing well, the pages extending as I pull together “The Plan” but the moving in list has only just begun.
The dentists, schools, hydro and phones. Mail forwarding, internet, and kids’ activities… it just goes on and on. Moving is a full time job!
And then all our stuff. Nine years and 3 kids worth of stuff. Barrels and boxes and steamer trunks full of stuff. A whole garage full of testosterone filled stuff (shiny, metallic, and very, very heavy!)
Never ending stuff.
So, we do what parents (type A, minimalist parents) do best… we purge, we recycle, we craigslist and garage sale. We are letting go of everything that is form fitted to this house, and taking (dismantling/ moving/carrying/assembling) only the very needed and loved items.
So not only do we get to start fresh in a new location, with new pages on our book, but we also get to get rid of the dust, the papers and the excess stuff that has also been holding us back. It is a whole other way to focus in, and teach the kids to focus, on what is truly important.
And no… my husband does not get his wish of leaving here with the kids, pets and our visa card! (they always have to push it don’t they!)
