It has been an amazing 18 months.
We moved here to Salt Spring Island on September 1st, 2012, with our mind full of possibilities, eager to see what the future had in store.
We had no idea what we were going to experience, or where we would end up. We could never have imagined the change that the past 18 months has made on us.
We created businesses (one each) that would help to pay the bills and keep our family (and our souls) fed. We explored the island, camping and hiking and eating our way through farm stands.
And very quickly, we fell in love.
We loved the peaceable qualities of the spaces here. The introverted nature of the residents. We loved that people ended up here for no rhyme or reason, but felt connected to this place.
We loved that the island, and the people here, eventually welcomed us.
We built businesses and we built a life.
But it was all still temporary. It was still just a trial. Nothing was permanent for us here.
And it was time to make a decision.
What do we do with our life? Do we stay or do we go? Do we commit, and take the plunge or do we continue exploring the world in an attempt to find happiness.
We searched for a home, we talked it over, we cried about it a bit as well, and came to a conclusion.
We are here to stay.
For now anyway.
I mean, the kids would KILL us if we left.
And the chickens! How could we ever move the chickens?
And so, dear reader, I hope you will explore the next stage of our life with me. The stage where we start sinking some roots into the Salt Spring earth and make a permanent home for ourselves.
The stage where we talk more about our home, our garden and our farm. The stage where our children grow up and our life becomes more “routine”
Although, life here will never be routine.
On April 1st we will be moving out of our rental home and into our new house. We will take the boxes that still fill the basement and finally unpack them after almost 2 years.
We will start again.
I am giddy with excitement at the chance I have to share this story with you (because this “story” has actually been going on for a few months already) I am eager to start showing you around, and get your ideas on renos we have planned.
And I want to start canning with you; salsa, and beans and tomato sauce and antipasto. I want to have you walk down the drive to the farm stand as we leave fresh veggies and eggs for the community.
I want to start sharing my dream with you. . . except it isn’t a dream any longer.
Now we will just call it LIFE.
