I have likened myself to an explorer in the past and still love the thought of blazing new trails, whacking back bush and forging ahead to the unknown.

In this day and age, it is a little less extraordinary than it was in the past… but it is still possible.

Not only is it courage that drives us forward to be adventurers, it is also opportunity and timing. Especially as parents with kids, and bills and commitments, being amazing sometimes has to be safe as well.

I visited my sister last week. They were thinking of scooping up a little spot in Washington  A simple place to pop a trailer and visit on the weekend and grab some cheap beer and gas (thank you USA.. we Canadians do appreciate this!)  When I chatted with them they were on the very edge of putting in an offer… I like to think I pushed them over.

My sister sent me a text the next day saying they had put in the offer and got the property. I was thrilled for her… I really was. But there was a small piece of me that craved this as well. Like when you wave goodye to friends going on holiday, I wanted a small bit of courage and adventure myself.

We are always told,  my our parents, and our grandparents… invest in land… It will never decrease.  While we know this isn’t true based on some recent dips in the housing markets across the world, it can still be a safe bet if you buy right, and buy low.
