I am that girl that walks outside on a cloudy day and gets tan lines. I have olive skin that changes colour like a mood ring from the corner store. I go deeper and deeper and rarely get a sunburn.
I couldn’t tell you what eczema felt like, and my biggest frustration is I sometimes need to use lotion so my skin doesn’t look dry.
I have some good skin genes.
But I married an Englishman.
And, in addition to his gorgeous accent, and great work ethic, he added “sensitive skin” into my family gene pool.
2 of our 3 kids have his delicate skin. Battles with eczema, irritation to chemicals and sun sensitivity. And dealing with the aftermath of ANY of this issues is painful and potentially dangerous for my kiddo’s.
So, finding something gentle enough for their skin, that keeps the sun off, and will last through an 8 hour sail and full day in the sun. . . well, it has been tricky! Sensitive skin sunscreen doesn’t always work like it says, or be as gentle as it should!
We have used Aveeno products in the past on our two English Peaches, and now with their new 55 SPF sunscreen, we might just have all the bases covered. Using a brand that my kids know and trust is important. I can switch products, and try different things without any worries, but these two little just can’t. They need my investment of time and energy into getting products that work with their skin.
Their “foreign to me” skin.
Actually, maybe I should make the hubby deal with them? I mean, if anyone knows this skin, it is him! I can hang out with the one “olive skinned” kid!
My kids remind me that we are all different, and what may come easy to one of us, wouldn’t to others. I have trust that I can slather my littles with Aveeno Sunscreen lotion and have them keep safe in the sun! Even if we are playing outside on my “olive skins” terms!
