One of the best parts of being a blogger is being able to text your husband from a hot parking lot in San Jose, just to let him know you are driving BMW’s with a Formula 1 Race car Driver.
His response of “you suck” kinda sums it up.
While I was networking my time away at Blogher14 this year, I got to hang with the crew from Bridgestone tires.
They brought us in to talk about car maintenance and how rad their new tires are. We got to drive around on a flat. . . which isn’t really all that different than a regular day at home for me, but this time I didn’t destroy the rim of the wheel.
Then they tried to show me how to jump a car.
I have a major fear of electricity and just about had a heart attack when the Bridgestone gal sparked those two sparky things together. I stood back for this part. . far back.
But, I felt rad, and looked cool too. Bridgestone gave us hats to make us look like “car people”
BUT, then we got to jump in a beamer with a race car driver. The goal was to help us navigate a course at HIGH SPEED. The road was hot, and wet (they sprayed it) and he wanted us to see just how fast we could go on the Bridgestones without flipping.
Not that we “could” flip the car, but that didn’t stop some of us from trying.
It was all gentle and friendly and he was giving us the scoop, and then he LANDED his foot and tore off around the track.
I peed. And screamed (bless those leather seats in the BMW)
And then we begged to go again.
We all had a chance to drive – check out my friends Tiffany and Sara and how confident they were in my newly acquired skills:
I rocked that course, and our race car driver (sorry, I HAVE to call him that) “Cole” (as in “trickle”) pulled me aside after and said I was the best.
Then Cole (Trickle) took us on another spin. . . which we happened to catch on video (please note, I was close to death here so there may be one or two slipped naughty words)
It was a great break from the conference and I haven’t laughed that hard in .. forever, AND, I did learn a thing or two.
I have more confidence in my driving (watch out chickens) and may just pull a few moves out when Hubby and I take the old truck out for a spin!
