There is a taste of fall in the air today, summer finally losing it’s intense heat. Dew on the spider webs framing our front porch and the odd leaf, fluttering down from the cherry tree.
It’s these “hints” of fall that make we want to head to the shops and stock up on plaid and pencils. The fresh crisp pages of school books and a whole year of potential ahead of us.
This year all 3 kids are starting something new. Big kid heads off to Middle School for her first year. Lockers and backpacks and a school store where she can purchase snacks. Our little one starts kindergarten (SQUEE) and he is so very ready. And the middle, well, she is doing one more school switch since we moved in April, starting a new year, with new friends and all sorts of new opportunities.
Fall is a season of starting lines and new friends. It is that time where we get to choose how to begin, after having a summer away from everything. It is a rebirth.
And it is a reminder that after that summer of ease, the kids need to get their brains working again. Luckily our kids are heading back to school with a mind full of imagination! Thanks to the KindleFire they have read their way through the lazy days of summer and kept their minds active (even while their bodies swung in the hammock)
Our middle daughter, heading into grade 3 hasn’t ever been top of her class. She was chugging along, maintaining, but we hadn’t been able to instil in her a PASSION for school.
I am not a huge believer in tech for techs sake, but when it gives my kids a place to be excited about learning, and the freedom to explore, then I am all for it.
Our girls were each given a Google+ account this spring as a way to stay connected to mom and dad while they were on holidays with the Grandparents. Having my 8 year old have to put into words (all by herself) how she was feeling and what she was thinking created a deeper understanding of writing and communicating.
Now, by having books at her fingertips that she can explore, that gives her the freedom to learn anything and creates a passion for reading that I have been desperate for her to have.
With a few weeks until the start of school, and a long bus journey morning and afternoon ahead of them, I am pretty thrilled that my girls will have a tech device filled with stories to ignite their imagination on the journey.
Each year is a fresh start, for us and for them, and here is hoping it is a great one.
Check out the Kindle Fire on sale at Staples right now and get your kids minds ready for back to school by igniting their imagination during these last few weeks of summer!
