It has been a week with the kids at home and “unschooled” . We have actually been TRYING this week. Trying to keep them busy, trying to get their brains working and trying to manage our work/life/farm and family.
Our eldest daughter, the one who is extra disappointed that school is out, has already defined her system. Day 2 she created a list of her “day”
And she made her list, and stuck to it. We used resources from online, printed worksheets and balanced life and learning together.
Well, the 10 yr old did.
The 8 year old got frustrated with online learning, stomped away from her worksheets and pretty much just wanted to play outside.
And the 4 year old? He interrupted the girls as much as he could and pretty much wanted to spend the day colouring.
For our self directed learner this week is fabulous. She is able to move at her own pace (which is super speedy) and challenge herself when she feels up to it. I give her projects, and she does them. She passionately finds learning in everything!
She is even able to fit in her chores each day!
But the other two, not so much. They need engagement, constantly. Someone watching over their shoulder, answering the constant stream of questions they have.
So, they go off to the grandparents for 4 days, while the big kid stays home.
Four days for mom and dad to work at record pace.
Four days to start planning what we will do with them the week AFTER next.
Four days of reprieve.
How are YOU managing the strike? Or are you not bother at all?
