We haven’t been a part of the Salt Spring Island community very long, just two years, but already we feel welcomed. When an offer comes up, we tend to leap at the opportunity to participate.
So, this weekend, when we had a last minute invite to “Come to the Park”, we did.
We had been told it was a fun little game of capture the flag.
Ha. Fun?
Competitive, hardcore and committed. . . and AWESOME on all accounts.
They pegged adults vs kids (us oldies being outnumbered 3 to 1) and we each took a half of the HUGE park. Rivers, mountains, meadows and forests filled the park as the parents fought their offspring for the honouring of capturing the flag.
3 Hrs in, after a long hike attempting to skirt the youngins borders the game was called a tie. Exhausted, sweaty and beaming after a fabulous day with the community.
Its moments like this that we feel a part of something, and that this little island, feels perfectly like home.
And for next year Hubby and I both agreed- less bright paint, dark colour clothes and MORE WATER!
