We are finally back to school in BC and with all the excitement and rush to get ready I forgot about one very important part of our week.
Kindergarten gradual entry.
Pure torture for parents and kids alike who experience it.
With our girls in full day school, riding the bus and having their lunches packed and ready, our little dude is again left feeling like he got the shaft.
An hour and a half on the first day, nothing on the second and a half day on the third.
Monday I spent an hour explaining to him why he had to leave, why he couldn’t catch the bus and trying to have him understand when he would be going back again.
Monday I got my first “I hate school” from my dude . . . but for all the wrong reasons.
So, instead of worrying about it too much, I have built in some little rewards for my man. Things he can do when his sisters aren’t home, something that is all his, but also makes me feel okay about a 4th week of “unschooling”
And this is when we again bow down to mighty Netflix, deliverer of educational shows, all on easy streaming.
The groovy team at of LeapFrog critters who chat about school, numbers and letters (all perfectly suited to my kindergarten dude) and with catchy lyrics as well!
And our favourite super heroes in SuperWhy who solves mysteries!
A little extra screen time this week, a few more moments with my dude as we add in a swimming date and lunch out. . . because as they say, time will fly and by this time next week he WILL be in school full-time and I will have all the hours in the day to myself.
Possibly to catch up on my Netflix (shhhhh)
