Last night I had my son in tears as I was putting him to bed. He was angry and disappointed in me, and was calling me out on how I had let him down.
Apparently the night before I had promised him a mocking bird. As well as a diamond ring, a looking glass, a dog that barks plus a variety of other items.
He was mostly hung up about the mocking bird though.
He said I shouldn’t make promises I don’t keep, and even though he isn’t sure what a mocking bird is, he is pretty sure he would like one.
As he said, he likes chickens. . . so he would like a mocking bird too.
He continued to school me and told me, if you just get it like you promised, it could live in the coop.
I rubbed his back as he let the tears come, and I felt pretty terribly for disappointing him. I suggested I sing a little to help him fall asleep.
He said that was a nice idea.
But not to promise him another mocking bird please.
