I start prepping our kids to think about their letter to Santa in October, and for good reason. With 3 kids in the house, Santa needs time to prepare to visit us, and in my experience, sometimes wishes change.
To help the big guy along I re-visit the discussion multiple times over the fall so that there are no surprises and he is fully aware of what the kids are excited about.
We have one daughter though that committed her list to paper on first draft, and hasn’t wavered since. She is 100% committed and passionate and knows EXACTLY what she wants.
Our house rules are that when Santa visits us he brings the kids ONE thing from their list. He fills stockings and does his very best to make a dream come true for each of them. Since this is how he operates (and our kids are aware that the list might as well be legally binding) they have to put down a few choices for Santa. Choices that allow he to decide the best gift he is ABLE to give to them.
Back to our “middle child” who is attempting to thwart Santa’s rule this year.
Number one on her list is a Mapelea Doll named Taryn.
Taryn is a west coast gal just like her. She loves to hike and is pictured with a great big burmese mountain dog by her side (also perfect for my animal loving daughter) In terms of doll personalities, Taryn seems pretty cool, and a great thing to have on the list for Santa.
But back to our rule.
You MUST put down choices for Santa JUST IN CASE he is unable (aka can’t afford/find/makeintime) your first choice.
SO, my beautiful, clever daughter put this down on her list as a second option for Santa this year.
This is Brianne. Another Mapelea doll.
See what is happening here? My Little darling HAS followed our rules, and debated with me for almost an hour over WHY this is a legitimate addition to her list.
1. Brianne is DIFFERENT than Taryn. She is from a farming village in manitoba, and is dressed in pink.
2. Brianne is VERY like my daughter (and deserves a spot on the list for this reason alone) She is in 4H, has a pony (we are NOT getting a pony I remind her) and loves to help out with the animals.
3. Santa is magic mom. He can do this.
My very confident daughter then continued to explore the Mapelea website where she learned more about the Canadian Dolls, read their bio’s and was just about to write down MORE names when I suggested she try something different.
She begrudgingly added “Sketch Paper” to her list and went back to the site.
Sketch paper? That is the guilt addition- if Santa brings her a sketch pad instead of the doll we know he is screwed.
And I think the big guy might be keen to bring her a Mapelea Doll. He is ALL over Canadian gifts, and any doll that can come with her own Beaver or HockeyKit is a WIN for me.
Santa can’t ALWAYS deliver what the kids ask for, but he sure does try. And it does help he if likes their choices as much as they do!
