I remember being held behind after I picked up my son from preschool last year. The teacher had a stack of papers and wanted to show me what my little artist had been doing.
It was page, after page, after page of Yellow.
Yellow, orange, gold, layers of them on every page.
And I totally got it.
At the time we were living at another property and it was dark all winter long. The sun rarely struck the house after October, and didn’t re-appear until April.
We were starving for sunlight, in a very drastic way.
It was my first experience with S.A.D (Seasonal Affective Disorder), and I was amazed at how deeply it affected my son. His need was coming out so boldly in his paintings at school, subconsciously searching for the sunlight.
We needed to make some changes.
Every day we tried to find a sunny spot outside that we could sit and snack. Both he and I would turn our faces to the light and absorb all the vitamin D we could before we went back home to our cave property.
I filled our fridge with fresh fruits and vegetables, forcing summer flavours on him.
And we supplemented with “sunshine vitamins” as he calls them.
Iron Kids Vitamin D Gummies come in the shape of little sunshines, and have a cheerful sun on the packaging. My little dude knows exactly what they are for, and is drawn to them like he is drawn to a sunny spot in the yard.
Making them a part of our winter routine has helped combat S.A.D. type symptoms, and now our dude is using ALL the colours in his pictures!
Our new home is filled with light, and that is one of the main reason we fell in love with it. A sunny property all year round means we aren’t being starved of vitamin D like the past years. But, my little dude still CRAVES the light.
So, come fall, when he starts asking for his sunshine vitamins, and we again make them part of our regular schedule. Prevention is as important as treatment and Life Science Nutritionals offers a wide selection of daily vitamins for kids and grownups!
