Now lets get one thing straight here, I am NOT a homeschool based parent. In fact, last year when our kids where home from school between June 15th and October due to our Educational/Provincial Job Action, I was a hopeless parent. I tried my very best to keep our kids brains working during this extended summer, but other than bringing them in the kitchen to help me bake or leaving them to fall asleep in a pile of Lego, I failed.
I find teaching simple concepts in a fun way really hard. I am not overly creative when it comes to crafting, nor can I easily break down learning objectives into bit sized chunks. I have many strengths, teaching grade 1 math is not one of them.
So, I went online to explore lesson plans for my kids. And failed again. The plans were either expensive to download, or had such a limited variety my kids burned through them in a day. They were so hungry for information and starved with what I was providing.
Now, had it been this year, I would have been set.
All summer my little one (and sometimes even the older kids) has been working through the Hot Wheels FUNdamentals program. It is a free online program with months worth of downloadable worksheets and activities, all based around the Hot Wheels concept and products.
