I love the new year. The fresh start, with the whole year layer out. I am a true believer in the idea of starting as you mean to go on, to leaping forwards and making the most of each day.
Except sometimes things start a little more slowly than you would like them to.
Thing 2 spent the day yesterday with a high fever and was most definitely not on the list for “going to school”. Thing 3 had the school call home just after recess complaining of a tummy ache, so that had me racing out to collect him from school.
Add to this a slow computer start up, time spent helping hubby with his accounting, and delays on every front.
10 trips for fresh water, hot buttered toast, and more logs for the file kept me on my toes all day, and distracted from leaping into a new year of business like I had planned.
But, sometimes a slow start is okay too. Perhaps spending the day balancing these people I love, with a business I love, is exactly how the year is meant to be. Perhaps speed, and huge LEAPS is not what the next 12 months are going to be about. Maybe it is about slower starts, with more time spent on things that seem to matter less, that actually matter more.
Maybe it is giving myself a break every now and then, allowing my brain to turn off and my mind to wander…. or to accept the interruptions from these little people.
So, today began slowly… and bit by bit we all made it through. Colds and flu, fatigue from a busy holiday and while we only made a tiny impression on 2016, there is always tomorrow, and the next day and the next.
