The last few weeks on the inter web have felt rather volatile from where I am sitting. It seems that as every week clicks over there is something new to be up in arms about. A new travesty, or tragedy that is causing mobbing, and viral responses.
From Blogger bashing, to mental illness and now gorillas, we are all “on edge” and perhaps rightly so. Maybe we have learned that our voice online does matter? That we can be heard through the noise?
Perhaps we feel that we can create change by sharing our thoughts and feelings, and that their is opportunity for us to shift a direction and be HEARD?
But I, like many others, have had enough. I am tired of seeing the same trending stories slide by my newsfeed. Of having conversations stretched far past their value, of people triggering us again, and again, and again with these responses.
This whole internet thing works. It works to share our thoughts and ideas and spread awareness. It works to attack and to build up. It works to promote and market, and it works to give us each a platform to shout if we need to.
But, could we use this new found knowledge for something better, I wonder?
I know the internet runs of the fuels of desire. The viral posts are the negative ones, the ones that cut and hurt. I understand that the undercurrent of human nature does not always reside on the happy side.
But perhaps together, with this united (and very LOUD) voice, we can share something better?
Our community is listening. We are reaching people, we are making change. We are being HEARD.
So let us choose to be heard for something extraordinary.
For all of you with fingers, a keyboard and a platform, write something nice. Write story that support and share. New stories. YOUR stories. Stories from your life, your best days, your most wonderful experiences.
Share other great stories that show people sitting in a positive place, or making change. Ask questions about wonderful stories you can share, support the great things happening in your community.
I believe that we all create a vibe around us.. and lately this “vibe” has been a little dubious. So, lets change it.. lets bring the feelings on the internet, even within our immediate community, back to something a little more positive?
