I have a thing for wine, it started early for me. I spent a month in Brazil and the family I was with were wine aficionados. Coming from a family that MADE WINE AT HOME, this was a whole new world to me.
This wine was good.
The cork came out smoothly, and the aroma filled the air. There was bottle after bottle of delicate flavours, and I knew I was drinking something worth more than my shoes.
Granted, they weren’t nice shoes, but they were all I had.
It was my first taste of REAL wine. My first dabble into fine dining, and quality beverages.
And it ruined me.
For years I couldn’t dive below the 30$ mark for a bottle of vino. I would rather go without than drink a less than stellar glass. I became snobbish and elite, at least according to my wine choices.
And then the kids came along, and I needed to change. It was a fresh pack of diapers over my nice bottle of Pinot Noir, or kitchen reno’s instead of a crate of Cabernet Savignon. It was choices, and at that time, I needed to put my wine fetish away and focus on growing a foundation for our family.
But, now the kids are growing, and budgets are stabilizing, I am starting to dabble in the odd bottle again. Exploring familiar flavours and testing out new varieties, and low and behold I find that in my absence, they are now delivering wine.
To your door.
In a box, or a crate. . . from the internet to my mouth in a day.
And that just makes me want it all the more. Now my tastebuds can be blessed, and I don’t even need to scour the shelves looking for my old friends. . . it is all right there.
They even have a Wine Wizard to help me source new flavours.
Goodbye budget dinners and homemade plum wine. . . I am back to my pretty bottles of red!
