I don’t get a lot of time with “just us girls”, without time limits, and adding in all sorts of other household errands, so when the chance to hit the city and get some back to school shopping in came up, all three of us were thrilled.
We had a day in Victoria planned to see the start of the #bike4wildlife event, and then spent the morning wandering the city without plans or any direction.
On our way home we hit the local mall and popped into Sears. The girls had done a “closet audit” before our trip so we had a few ideas of what we were looking for (rain jackets & pants! boy these kids grow) but I also knew the girls would try and sucker me into some unnecessary choices as well.
You know what I mean – something other than the standard school clothes, and “logical” choices.
Sparkly things. Or shiny, or lacy, or things that were (going to be) short lived fads.
So we hit the kids section and the girls went at ‘er. My eldest had a better idea of what she wanted, while the little one went a little wild. I (of course) threw a few “wise choices” in on top in the hopes that the kids would fall for it.
When we got to the change room it looked like this.
Yes. Little one fully loaded (do you see all those dresses, egads)
We tried, and tried and tried and ended up with a pile of “preferred items”
A pile. A big pile.
An expensive pile.
With dresses. Fancy dresses. With both girls loving the same one.
Argh. I tried to explain that we live on a farm, and these lace dresses were not the best choice for school attire.
The begged, and pleaded (and possibly snuck out a tear) and I went through that mom list of “well, maybe we can get it for christmas” all the while racking my brain to try and remember if their current “fancy dresses” were too small, and counting up the number of times they may possibly NEED a fancy dress (not many where we live, by the way)
I brought them to the counter, hoping for a surprise sale, and if not, planning on letting them fall to the side. Maybe when we get home the kids will be too excited over all the other stuff to worry about them.
What happened?
Well, surprise sale it was. By using my sears card we got an extra 50% off our items. Each girl was outfitted with their choices (including raincoats) for $100 (including taxes)
They loved the choices, and they especially loved the dresses.
And they really loved putting on this fashion show for you all…. enjoy!
