We walked into chicken rearing with very little poultry knowledge, learning along the way. One of the most awesome surprises to us was the Bantam Chicken.
A “mini” chicken, just perfect for little hands.
In fact, smaller enough to hold a few of them.
Laying smaller eggs than a standard hen, and coming in fun sizes (and colours), frequently with feathery legs, these little chickens are a total delight.
These little ones DO need to be protected though. Small enough to be grabbed by a crow or raven, they tend to be the first snack for predators. Make sure you have a great rooster around, or provide them with safety zones.
