I find snacks and lunches a challenge to prepare. I am more of a “meal” girl myself, and the whole concept of making a cute teddy bear shaped lunch confuses me.
I wouldn’t want to eat a teddy bear.
So, most days my kids get the boring sandwich, piece of fruit and home made cookie. Boring, but it does the trick. But very, very boring.
So this year I want to try and change it up, but without investing a million dollars into bento lunch kits, or shape cutters. I want to maintain the simplicity, but maybe add the odd surprise to their lunch.
Perhaps the challenge of it will keep ME excited over the next 10 months of lunch making?
We are starting with the storage capsules of the Kinder Surprise treats. Perfect size for a bite sized snack, and easy enough for my kids to stuff in their pocket to bring out on the playground. And, it keeps what is inside a secret. And perhaps by having a secret snack, on the playground, they will be more inclined to eat it when it turns out to be ….
….. vegetables.
Well, cute vegetables. Mini tomatoes and mini cucumber straight from the garden.
Best part is that no tomatoes or cucumbers will get squashed, mushy, sweaty or covered in accidentally spilled yogurt while in the lunch box.
Well, the actually best part is that the kids need to eat the TREAT from the Kinder Surprise so I can GET the capsule, but since this is one of their go-to treats we do have one or ten capsules hanging around the house that will now be put to use instead of stored alongside my sons rock collection!
What would you put inside the kinder capsules to surprise your kids at lunchtime? Check out the Kinder Canada Facebook page for more fun ideas, and GREAT giveaways!
