My eldest wasn’t ever all that into dolls. She was more of a Lego kid, or colouring or other creative projects.
So when she shared her Christmas list with me this year, I was a little thrown.
A doll?
Specifically, an American Girl doll… Josefina to be exact.
And, of course. . . this is what she is asking Santa for, so it is a “sure thing” sort of gift. And then when she started preparing for her doll; making clothing, blankets and “accessories” I realized this was something she was passionate about.
And if your 10 year old puts time and effort into something, and prepares for it’s arrival . . well, that is all right by me, and a whole lot better than being lost in the tv for hours.
I knew nothing of the American Girl products before this summer when I participated in an event at one of their stores in Chicago.
It was dreamy, and within moments I totally “got it”
I got the fascination and understood exactly what little girls would see in their dolls. And if it made this 39 year old mom feel a little younger and a little more innocent, than it would do just the same for my girls.
I also loved that all the dolls come with a set of books specific to the character. For their historical characters, this includes stories of life in their time (which my Amy is all over!) Anything that encourages my girls to read, and to build relationships and bloom a little later these days, is wonderful.
So, American Girl will be sharing some real estate under our christmas tree this year, and I can not wait to see the girls reactions.
If you are interested in an American Girl Doll (or accessories) from now until December 31, 2013, customers who make a purchase with American Girl in store or online will receive a thank you gift–a promo code for a free 20-page, American Girl-themed hardcover photo book (valued at $29.99), redeemable at Shutterfly.com.
And new this summer, American Girl has welcome the Bitty Baby to their stores! I am thrilled to have a little doll for our daughter, and to have been able to include some fabulous accessories as well.
And Canadians, don’t despair! American girl is coming to CANADA! American Girl boutiques will be opening in SPRING 2014 in partnership with Indigo Books & Music INC. Keep your eyes open as the first shops to be opened will be in Indigo’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre, Toronto, and Robson Street, Vancouver. More details about the Grand Opening will be coming!
