The holidays start oozing their specialness right around this time. We start preparing our lists, stocking up on baking and that general thrum of excitement sits in our bellies.

And holiday giving is brought to the front of the line as well.

As we give to the ones we love, we are also more inclined to give to charity and others in need as well. Maybe it is the “true” spirit of Christmas that opens our minds and hearts a little more at this time of year, or maybe it is that there seem to be more opportunities for charity.

Either way, it is something we should all add to our list.  And when we have the opportunity to not just support a charity, but also share with our children the reasons we are doing it, and allow them to participate in the experience, we ensure that the act of giving at the holidays will continue throughout their life.
