Growth by the minute or by the day never seems that grand, but when you are able to look back over time and see the change, it is sometimes extraordinary.
Three years ago we were putting in time. We were plodding through life, struggling to make things work. I was anxious. I was stressed. Hubby was all of that, and more.
We hung in there as long as we could, thinking we were “doing it right” and “being responsible”, and then we broke.
In one quick weekend we made the decision to stop doing it that way, clean the slate and begin again.
But our way.
We quit everything we knew, everything we were doing. Sold what we could, and struck out on adventure.
Sounds simple, but in reality it was a time of major upheaval, stress and fear. We didn’t know if we were doing the “right” thing. We didn’t know if it would work. We didn’t know if we would find work, find a home, or find a place we loved and wanted to stay.
We were welcoming in the devil we didn’t know, and leaving the one we did know behind (which isn’t always the safest idea)
Fast forward to today and I think back to that scared couple, so very unsure of what they actually wanted out of life. Two people who didn’t know who they were, what they were good at, or what made them happy.
And today.
Well, today we realize that when you strike out on your own in life there is no right or wrong way to do it. There is no way that it is supposed to work out and that life is all about adjusting and adapting to what comes your way. We know that the places on this planet that you are meant to be will find you, and if you open yourself to the possibilities, amazing things can happen.
And most importantly we learned that your own path, is always the right path, and that your happiness is more important that anything else in your life.
And that yes, it is always worth the risk.
