Laundry is one of the biggest “mom-plaints” ever. We are always commenting on the pile of laundry, the never ending pile of laundry.
The matching of the sox, the keeping up with the mess, the management of this on going task and the fact that we never, ever get on top of it.
Like ever.
Even when we think we are finished, there is always another pile ready to be washed.
So to help manage my anxiety about this endless task, I have made laundry my moment of bliss.
I committed to the laundry line.
Hanging laundry on the line is like a cup of coffee in a quiet house in the morning. You get to “escape” responsibility for a moment as you string up the sheets and towels. And then once they are hung, there is the “walk by” where you can smell the freshness and feel the cool fabrics blowing in the wind.
Unless you pull your water from a well.
A well of water full of “natural ingredients” and “healthy minerals” that make our clothing smell more like boiled egg than “sea breeze and pine”.
Being away from traffic and noise and general “city stench” has not helped. Even though we have fresh air galore, our crunchy, sulphur smelling laundry just wasn’t doing it for us.
So, when I opened the mailed and got a free full sized bottle of Downy Unstopables, I gave it a go. It smelled great in the can, but how would it do against sulphur and kid sweat?
The in-scent booster was great. Since it is added to the washing machine, my laundry line still got to do it’s job. Granted, we have to be a little more liberal with our serving size in the washer, but it is the only thing so far that has worked against the smell of the water.
We still have a bit of “crunchy towel syndrome” but it has helped loosen up the fibres a little. And the batch that hubby threw in the dryer came out pretty fantabulously soft.
Oops, just heard the buzzer go on the washer, which means another load of laundry for me to put in the line!
Peace and quiet for a brief moment (until the kids see the sheets hanging and start to do their laundry dance)
