There is a new man in my life these days, well, there are a few actually.
One is tall, dark, and deadly sexy. The other is an instagram filter come to life, hipster in style and totally into grassroots fun (I think he and I will start making our own goat cheese soon)
And then there is that other fella. A man of few words, but with just a look he leave you breathless.
And never fear, my real man is still by my side, these new fella’s are just to dabble with. A small adventurous moment, and only for work day fun.
So, how does my hubby feel about all this?
Honestly, when he sees the fruits of my labour as I wine and dine these guys, he is fully supportive.
It also helps that they aren’t real. They are just themes.
WordPress themes.
And still, they totally entrap me.
A huge part of my work in branding is choosing themes, images and helping “set the stage” for a new brand. This means countless hours searching images, and theme accounts. Exploring ideas, tasting concepts, playing around with brands.
And a theme, much like a man looks perfect at first glance. You fall in love with the full package, eager to start making cheese/riding motorbikes/visiting tropical islands/shopping in the city.
And so you commit. You pay the fee and this little “thing” is now all yours, forever.
The days go by, and what seemed like a simple slider is now a complex, and un-editable hardwire into the system. A feature you were excited about doesn’t really deliver like you thought. You get tired of the look, even though to outsiders it is still exciting.
Suddenly your dream theme is leaving their socks on the floor and forgetting to do the dishes. His relationship with his mother (aka developer) is far too restricting and non of the suggested changes you are making are actually sticking.
You want to break up, start again, meet a new theme.
But, if you stick it out, and see the problems through, eventually you will find a common ground and ease to your days. He will evolve, and you will learn how to work around his quirks.
And then, you will make goat cheese together.
