We were never that family that sent Mom off for a spa day on Mother’s Day, or booked a fishing or golfing trip for Dad on Father’s Day.  It was never about the one “celebratory” person being off on their own, doing their thing. As the “mom” in the equation, I never wanted to be on my own. I wanted to be surrounded by my children, enjoying them enjoying me.

And this Father’s Day will be no different.   This weekend will, of course, be about celebrating Dad, but to do so we will create DAD moments, not send him off to be manly and alone.

He and my son will be going on an “epic” boat camping trip. Just the two of them, doing “guy” stuff, which according to my son is listening to rock music (not pop like mom enjoys) and peeing in the bush.

Sunday will be a bacon based breakfast, and a day of DAD. We will help him finish off all those niggley projects that eat away at his relaxation and then we will play.

We love the new HexBug Battle Spiders, and they are great at keeping Dad and the kids entertained.  The battle spiders come armed and have realistic recoil and sounds when they are hit with an opponents laser shot.

Not only is this fun for Dad and the kids, we have even had adult visitors want a go with these feisty little robots.

The biggest part of the fun (for both Dad and the kids) is the opportunity to play something together that is appropriate for the age gap.  Not only are the battle spiders easy to use (for our 6 year old) they are also challenging enough to keep Dad interested.

In the end, the only thing the kids want is their Dad’s time and attention… and being able to have him laugh and enjoy himself makes it all the more fun.
