I am a great mom. I spend quality time, I listen and respond calmly to a million questions a day. I go outside in the rain, and sometimes even make creative lunches. . . and trust me shredding cheese for hair on a sandwich is a daunting task.

I even “play” chickens. (and yes, that is a thing)

I am a great mom.  And I love my kids to bits and appreciate that I am here with them, available and eager to hear about their day.

But sometimes. . . I get a little tired of being great.

I want to read a full page of my book without being interrupted.

I want to go to the bathroom.

Alone.

I want to vacuum, without help. Fold laundry, without help. And change the sheets on the bed… without the little monkey jumping on it.

I want to unload the groceries from the car and put the ice cream away before it melts.

Every now and then I want a brief moment of time for myself.
Not hours, or days (ok, well sometimes)

but just a moment.

and so I bribe them.  Directly and without confusion. I say “if you do this, you will get this”

It isn’t sneaky. It is honest.

Like being paid for work you complete.

Except I pay them in KinderEggs.

And it totally works.

Like a charm. Every time.

“give mommy 5 minutes to do the dishes and you can have a kinder egg”

“want a new marvel kinder egg toy? Here you go, now let mommy finish her work”

Best thing- small bits of chocolate. No sugar frenzy here. And the added bonus is right now the Kinder Eggs are homes to Marvel Superhero’s and Disney Princesses.

And with a Spiderman obsessed little dude and two girls who STILL love Disney Princesses, it is like a double dip bonus!
