The hubby and I have been together for 15 years. Solid, secure and a stable team. Not only is this fellow my partner and co-parent, he is also my best friend.
And he still makes my eyes light up, and my heart skip a beat when he walks in the room.
With Valentines Day approaching and the shelves lined with boxes of pink and the internet filled with ways to “romance your man” I am again, turned off this attempt at forced romance.
Love, romance and all the rest isn’t about celebrating one day out of the year. It doesn’t come in a ruffled box, or wrapped in paper.
Love, to me, is about one simple thing.
Make every day special
We were asked on the weekend what we are doing for “Valentines’ Day” Both hubby and I looked at each other and said “this”
It is another day that we will enjoy being together. Another day to embrace the life we have built and to spend with our family. Another day, like the many before it, that we will tell each other we love each other, and help each other out.
We work from home together, all day, every day, and have time to sneak our quality time without having it take away from our family time. We have time to have all the conversations that other couples need to squeeze into an evening out. We have time to not only dream, and plan, but also to DO the things we dream and plan. Every. Single. Day.
When we made our shift to island living we set goals together about what we wanted our life to be like. We spent time building up a strong foundation so that our life wouldn’t crumble later on.
A huge part of that is being active. Together.
Instead of gym memberships, we buy a truck load of rock to build our new garden beds. Instead of fitness classes, we take the dogs on a long walk each morning. Together.
Not only are we able to catch up on the minute’ of our lives, we are sweating, breathing and enjoying the island we chose to live on.
It is a part of my plan to spend as many days as possible with this man of mine. I expect great things from both of us for many, many years to come, and to ensure that we make activity and healthy living a priority.
We talk through the stress, and ensure that we keep it reduced as much as possible, helping each other through the tough times when they come up.
We encourage activity in each other, AND our kids, supporting individual sport as well as family adventures.
We eat well, focussing on real food, and planning for most of it to be home grown this spring and summer.
We are conscious and aware of our lives on a daily basis, understanding that this is not permanent and that we need to contribute to our life to ensure it continues as long as possible.
That means taking our vitamins, staying active and contributing to our health.
