The last day of summer break has arrived. Labour day brings with it a strange mix of feelings for me.
It is the realization that 2 months of waking to the farm will come to a harsh stop as the first alarm is set tomorrow morning. It is finding where on earth we stuffed those school lunch kits 10 weeks ago (and please, say we emptied them)
It is looking back and realizing that the summer went WAY too quickly, and as we start our 5th September here on Saltspring, EVERYTHING is going too fast.
It is packing away flip flops and summer sandals and finding rain boots and fall boots. It is seeing just what damage the summer did as I try to squeeze into last springs jeans.
It doing completely different grocery shop than we have been doing these past months, and beginning that horrible cycle of making lunches for the kids.
It is colds for me and the hubby, like our body is preparing us for the onslaught of germs the 3 kids will bring home.
Its smelling “THAT” smell in the air. Fog, cool mornings, pumpkins and crunchy leaves.
And a loss of warm winds, and late night swims.
One day left, and then we squeeze weekends in between soccer games and chores.
I’m ready.
