Valentines Day always trips me up. I am overwhelmed by the sparkly bits, and sweet treats and all that pink. Poor hubby usually ends up with something picked up from the grocery store the night before.
This year . . . something different! I have sourced a few “last minute” and easy to execute ideas for you! I encourage you to take a chance and do something outside of the candy heart department this year!
1. Romantic Retreat
Need a place to take the other half, or even the whole family for a weekend of relaxation? There are a few VRBO spots still available for Valentines Day weekend, but this is the one I recommend . . . I am biased of course! The weather should be good this weekend, and this spot will keep you and the kids happy and entertained, (and on budget) all weekend!
2. Impress with philanthropy
I am not a flowers and chocolates kind of girl and much prefer a gift that A) doesn’t clutter my house, and B) makes me feel good. Giving your loved one a donation valentine is always a nice way to appreciate them, and the rest of the world! Check out these great organizations and “share the love”
Plan Canada – give a Valentine Goat!
Kiva – help start a business
Kickstarter – inspire creativity!
Check for other local organizations that need your support!
3. Sometimes all they want is silence
Our world is a busy one. 3 kids and all sorts of chaos! If your life is the same, possibly the gift of giving your partner some time on their own would be appreciated! Forget the expectations of passion and quality time and give them a guilt free hour at the gym, a quiet bath (while the kids are entertained and not banging on the door, or egads, sharing your water!) You will know what makes your partner tick, and the best part: I bet they will come back refreshed and invigorated by their time! Keep it free – cost & guilt- and everyone will walk away happy!
Remember, flowers while beautiful, will fade away! I believe that a gift from the heart is a selfless one, and a lasting one. Create memories, and give your partner something that shows you know and understand them! And gifts from the heart also tend to cost a lot less than the ones you get from the store!
