My husband doesn’t let me read very often, and for good reason too. I seem to get swept away in a book for hours (or days) regardless of what else is happening around me.
But when a book does cross my path and I am able to dive in before Hubby finds it, it is bliss.
Such happened when “Unbridled” landed in my mailbox. Hubby was working off-island, so i had a few extra hours of time to squeeze in a read! And did i! I danced my way through Barbara McNally’s book in a few short days.
It is touted as a “memoir” and true account of how Barbara took a leap into liberation. An unhappy marriage, and dissatisfying life led her on a quest for adventure, to find her roots and strength.
And if you, like me, get a little scared off of memoirs, expecting them to be dry and a listed account of achievements and learnings, don’t be scared of this one. It reads more like a rich historical fiction (which I love) than a true account of daily life. And this adds volumes to the value of her message.
If you love the idea of finding adventure in your 40’3, or enjoy a tale of someone else digging deep to find their courage, grab a copy for a nice summer read! It is the perfect match to a chaise lounge, and a cool drink in the sunshine!
