With the breaking news this morning of a “potential” agreement and the hope that our kids will be cracking open the boxes their new school shoes came in 3 weeks ago, I want to toss out a gentle note about looking at the bright side of this “extended summer”
We potentially only have a few stolen moments left, so lets make the most of them, and appreciate the benefits!
There Was No September Overwhelm
School starts, program starts, and our kids are usually SLAMMED with activities in September. They go from swinging in a hammock to racing from art to soccer to homework and bed. One of the BEST things about our delayed start is that the kids have time to adjust to their new schedules of activities without that overwhelm. Now granted, we may be teetering on the “underwhelm” but at least THEY are feeling the stress.
What a Sunny September.
We usually have amazing weather here in September, and it seems to be even better this year. In fact, our kids have been in bathing suits all day and are just about to go for a swim at the lake! Spending their days outdoors and enjoying the heat is much better than inside a classroom… right?
Completing all the Chores, chores and more chores.
We have farm chores, but as school priorities take over the chores seem to slip as well. Thankfully with the kids home (and eager for jobs and activities) we have been able to keep chores on the top of the list. If you want to see a clean and fresh chicken coop, come on over! I have my little slaves beloved children picking apples, cleaning coops, planting beds and baking up a storm for me!
Remember, Carpe Diem baby!
Time is flying, and the kids are growing and perhaps having a few extra “stolen” moments with them isn’t such a bad thing. We snuggled watching the super moon late into the night, and I even have my 8yr old joining me on a morning run. This forced time has turned into BONUS time and we are going to take advantage of it!
In the end you can take the cup half full attitude or not, but I honestly believe worse things could have happened than having my kids at home for an extended break.
I am nervous of what will happen when they go back and how our school schedule will need to adjust for missed time. I am also preparing myself for the total panic that will ensue when we get word that we ARE going back! (I mean, can you even BUY school supplies in October??)
For now, we are adapting and adjusting and making the best of it. . . oh, and sleeping in! We are definitely STILL on our summer sleep in schedule.
