It wasn’t exactly what I had planned for mothers day. And in all truth, I hadn’t really planned much.
We always go “light” on holidays. Light in terms of expenses, and expectations. We keep it simple and quality. Good food, good company and a dash of creativity.
But this year I got a little more than I expected from one of the kids.
This year the three year old gave me strep throat.
And perfectly timed as well. Around midnight on Saturday I started to feel . . off.
All night we dealt with a fussy 3year old. He was feverish and hurting. I was battling the same issues, but attempting to calm him at the same time.
Hubby took over around 5am. At 7am he said he was bringing the dude in to get checked. Of course, we are still on the list for a Dr. so every little query of ours ends up at ER.
Hours later they come home laden with antibiotics and the little dude snuggles back in and sleeps.
We remain this way for the entire day, balanced between a feverish sleep and brief moments of waking. I got up for about 30 minutes and “enjoyed” my mothers day breakfast with the girls and hubby, who had (bless them) kept everything warm for me until I joined them.
Hubs ended up playing with the girls outside while the dude and I battled our bugs. No television, no games, only a fever heavy doze.
Two days we stayed like this, until finally my antibiotics kicked in and I finally dressed and showered today.
At least the gifts my kids give me last!
