Blogging conferences are ONLY made for established, and professional bloggers. They are the only ones the brands want to connect with and they are the only ones who will get the opportunities and perks.
As well, most of the established bloggers know each other, so for a newby coming it it is like stepping into a west-end clique. If you don’t dress right, talk right, blog right… well, you just aren’t in.
Whoa… wait a minute here… scratch that.
This is fiction. Total fiction. and if you bought it… we need to talk!
Let’s start again.
Why new Bloggers SHOULD go to conferences.
Now, ^^^ THAT ^^^ is what I meant to say.
I hear day in and out that a blogger is too new/too fresh/not monetized enough to attend a conference. This is just a hobby, it’s just for fun, they aren’t making any money at it….
Here’s the scoop peeps- and hopefully I will convince you to join me at Blissdom in Toronto this October with me (and 398 other amazing people)
1. Brands like fresh blood.
Okay…so maybe you don’t like how I said that, but it’s true. Think of yourself as a young model, just on the verge of “being found” . All the Big Fancy designer people want to find the fresh new face to put on their runway. Sure, they need the old, stable models as well… but having a shiny new look strut about with their clothes is AWESOME.
Be the new blood. Make it work. Shine…. be the IT girl (or guy…) take the opportunities (and no, you don’t need a “look book” )
2. You might just learn something.
that’s right. You might. You may just walk into a session that will BLOW YOUR MIND. Something that will give you the ONE NUGGET of info you need to change the world. Flips are switched every day by encounters with awesome people, and information. Put yourself in informations path and be ready to absorb it all. Take what you learn, apply it, share it, make something of it. No matter how young your blog, or how little material you have on it… you can and will learn something.
3. Drink the Kool-aid
Go ahead, take a drink… it’s great! Really, it is. Drink the blogger kool-aid and get inspired. Inspired to write, inspired to share, inspired by the amazing people around the globe who are sharing their unique stories and style and creating opportunities for themselves.
Inspiration rocks, and we all need a good dose of it every now and then. A shot in the arm and the jolt to the soul that you might need to leap the boundaries ahead of you. A little push in the right direction, the hand hold to get through it.
4. Yes, you DO deserve it.
So, your blog hasn’t made any money yet, you aren’t working with brands, and (oh no) you haven’t written anything for 2 4 8 months. Who cares. If you feel the nudge to go, you deserve it. You deserve the chance to learn and grow and laugh and make friends. No matter your current situation, we ALL deserve the chance to participate.
5. Sometimes your gut is right
Do you want to go? Have you thought about it? Does it make you nervous/excited/terrified? This is your instinct kicking in, it might just be time to listen.
Here is the question, what will happen if you don’t go?
Nothing. Nothing will happen. You won’t go. You won’t spend the money, you won’t step out of your comfort zone, you won’t take a chance. Nothing will change from today. . .
Now, what will happen if you DO go?
It’s hard to know.. it’s hard to guess what is waiting for you inside those doors. What I do know if this. Blissdom launched me. It gave me the confidence to be “IN” this industry. It was my first conference and it gave me skills and connections I needed to continue moving forward. It gave me a tribe, and a network, and a place to go to ask questions.
And I laughed, and danced and had a pretty darn good time as well.
It doesn’t matter your stage in this industry, it never does. All that matters is what you do with the opportunities presented to you.
This is an opportunity…. are you going to say yes?
