The whole journey, the first ferry (I think for my entire life ferries have always come in multiples) to the loading up at Costco, to the second ferry… my tummy rolled, my heart beat, beat, beat. I couldn’t wait to get there, to plant my feet on the island and start.
My hubby took the one car and the trailer – loaded to the brim with my cherished plants and various and assorted outdoor bits. I travelled with the 8 year old, the blind dog (one hamster) and groceries.
As we drove those final minutes, and finally turned down our new driveway I looked at my daughter.
She was beaming. She smiled and me and said “hurry mom, hurry”
It was awesome to be able to experience her excitement at starting this new phase. We had talked already while driving about how she will probably have her first boyfriend on this island, get her drivers license, and learn so much. It feels to me (and to her) that our futures are laid wide open for us to happen as they will. We get a fresh start. This is her chance to build her world.
And for me… well, the changes I have gone through in 8 years… it feels like it is finally my chance to build my world according to the new me, as well.
It is bliss.
