A huge part of our “new life” is changing our expectations. Not lowering… just changing.
With a change in job (ie: income) a change in location (ie: equity) we need to value our priorities a little differently.
One of the hiccups we had always incurred when we looked at moving house before was finding something “big enough” for our family (and extended family)
We would put limitations (4 bedrooms + office + acreage) that were so massive we could never find what we “wanted” Funnily enough; we were always looking for the wrong thing.
With our new vision ahead of us, we are opening our mind to possibilities we hadn’t considered. By truly looking at what is important to us, we can focus on filling those needs first and adapting to the minor things that don’t matter as much.
We want to live mortgage free… thank goodness as without jobs we won’t be able to get a mortgage. To do this, we will need to downsize from our 6 bedroom home to something a little more manageable. Location will help with us as well (goodbye lower mainland… a blessing in disguise I think!)
We want space. Originally we had set the limitation of “minimum 2 acres”. With our first goal to be mortgage free, we are recognising that half an acre in the right spot, with the right lay of the land will suite our needs just fine!
We want the kids to have space. This always meant their own rooms. To be able to meet our primary goals, this may not happen right away, but hopefully with the right space, the opportunity to grow our rooms may arrive! Ditto with the in-laws and guests… they may be bunking on a blow up instead of high end style.
I can picture where we will be in my mind. I see a glimpse of it, spattering’s of sunshine, a crackling of laundry on the line. We haven’t found it yet, but I know when we do it will fit us like a glove and meet our newly defined, simpler expectations.
