I am not sure what you got up to tonight, but I rolled in the hay. Literally… all of us… rolling !
We have a lovely big meadow down at the bottom of the property. It was full of long grass, and in the need to have everything clean and tidy, (and for the joy of riding on the trucktor.. yes, just a riding mower, but oh so much more to a 2 year old) hubby and dude have been mowing.
They mowed and the mowed, till they mowed the meadow down.
So tonight, we raked. We made piles of lovely sun dried hay, we had hay fights and we raked and hauled the hay (via the kids very under-used city wagon) to be stored for future critters.
To be outside in the sunshine after dinner, getting blisters on our hands and having a purpose… sweating our food off and storing for the winter… true perfection.
To see the dude stuff handfuls of hay down dads pants, the dogs rolling around beside us… as my husband said afterwards, that was as close to perfect an evening we have ever had.
We haven’t had the tv on in days (we are saving it for winter) We are going to bed with dirty feet each night and the kids run around with hay in their hair and smiles on their faces.
We are working together as a family, and yes, it isn’t necessary work, but it will make a difference to any little bunnies we get who need a cozy hutch in the cold months.
And it makes a difference to us, to our family. To see us all working together, from age 2-38 (ahem) . To have dude singing about team work (thank you wonderpets) and all of us lying and watching the night come approach through a wide open sky.
Yes, it was an evening as close to perfect as I have ever had.
And it was made by us. And it was only us. And it lets me know that we are good, our family is right and we fit in this place.
When was your last perfect night? A night that makes memories?
