We had our first visitors this weekend. And yes, we kind of showed off.
It certainly helped that when they arrived the sun was shining and the island aglow in the fall colors. The Saturday market was in full swing, so we popped by and got fresh cheese and salad makings for dinner. They were embraced by a happy community of artists and growers. It was a utopia for a moment as we stood with fresh made pizza in our hand and our bag filled with delicious treats while the kids played in the park.
Fresh bread everyday, and time to slow down and enjoy home cooked meals and walks in the crunchy fall leaves. It was their first foray onto the gulf islands, and we couldn’t help but impress. As our city living, small space peeps released their two active boys onto acres and acres of free range fun, tire swinging and bunny loving fun, we a-dults indulged in crisp G&T’s and caught up on the months apart.
We shared our love for this little island and even though it is still a new romance (sometimes those are so exciting) it still came through.
And I knew the way to my friend’s heart and soul; an avid rider in her pre-baby days, we went to the girls riding school and took the horses out for a few hours. We rode down to the ocean and smelled the salty breeze as it blew through the trees, and on our way home stopped at a local farm stand and got fresh baked muffins for a late breakfast.
Sick really. . . and totally unfair!
It was a perfect salt spring weekend. . . even for us.
I hope our guests went home with island dreams and better understanding our move and where our hearts are, because if we showed them anything it was that we were blessedly happy.
