Ding, the alarms goes off at an ungodly hour. 3am Vancouver time, except I am here in Toronto (thanking my stars I DID go to bed at 9pm!)
I have a full day. Especially since my mom-blogger days are usually filled with . . . well, not a lot really. . . mostly just peace, quiet and food.
I was one of the lucky 50 who won tickets to see Marilyn Denis Live this morning. I am part of the studio audience (my second experience! My first was being in the audience of Australia’s funniest home videos. . . not as awesome as it sounds!)
Not only did a few of us win Marilyn tickets, we also were all given the chance to apply for a makeover. That was the premise, but along with the makeover we got an interview with Marilyn.
Seriously – when I read that email I broke out in an immediate sweat. What could be more valuable to a new blogger, or any website than having a chance to sit and share your story on tv.
Seriously.
So, Vlogging fears aside, I headed directly outside (dude was watching diego, inside was noisy) and put together my little video entry.
I am not a good vlogger, it stresses me out. My chin is funny (crooked funny) and my voice is weird. So, in order not to lose my nerve I just uploaded that baby, warts and all and sent it in.
The weird thing is, it worked. Marilyn (well not Marilyn, one of the production peeps) called (and no, they didn’t really call, they emailed) and the rest is history. My history (note change of bio to read “as seen on the Marilyn Denis Show” )
So, prepping that day was an issue. Knowing I was on the shortlist for a makeover (but not confirmed) do I go looking like I need some TLC, or do I pull out all the stops and try (note, TRY) to look my best in case my bum is filling an audience seat for the whole show.
Not sure how I ended up looking to you. . . but this is the before:
While at the show we all got the chance to give a quick blurb about our blog (you can find it here . . . I am #3) and as we sat waiting for the show to start, with the seat beside me empty, I suddenly realized that it probably was me going in for this makeover (OMG, don’t cut my hair too short)
And yes, it was me. I got my few minutes with Marilyn, I got my makeover and I got to keep the clothes (trying to fit that into the suitcase. . .eeek!)
And behind the scenes the staff were wonderful, and fabulous, and warm. I wasn’t nervous for some weird reason, and I left the studio feeling wonderful.
Really, really wonderful.
And there is more to this amazing day. . . so much more, but I will leave you with the link to my episode segment & the reveal and tell you the rest of the story tomorrow.
And I will say that I feel very lucky to have had this opportunity, and have loved all the emails and messages from readers and friends new and old. I think it continues to prove that when you take on a challenge and step out of your comfort zone, the rewards are huge. That when we face our fears (and trust me, this was a fearful moment full of self doubt) we can overcome and excel. And sometimes, we just need to bite our lip and go for it. When an opportunity comes, don`t think about it too long. . . just take it!
